The cozy game boom and where to start

April 6, 2026 · Lukas Brenner

Cozy games have exploded on mobile, and for good reason. After a long day, not every game needs to test your reflexes or strategic mind. Sometimes you just want to tidy a little world.

Orchard Keepers is my gateway recommendation. It runs on real seasons, drops the aggressive timers, and lets you potter about at your own speed. Progress is slow, but that's the whole appeal.

For something more story-led, Lanterns of Avelry offers a short, beautiful adventure you can finish in a few sittings. Its watercolor art alone is worth the download.

The key to enjoying cozy games is letting go of the completionist urge. There's no leaderboard, no rush. The reward is the act of playing, not clearing a checklist.

If you've only played competitive or grindy games, a proper cozy title can feel almost strange at first. Stick with it. That gentle rhythm sneaks up on you.
